Blogger Friend School Assignment 119

This is a verse that I just came across this morning and I think I'll add it to the cover of my daily journal. I already have Proverbs 22:6 on the cover of my journal it reads "Train children in the right way, and when old, they will not stray. (I forget right now what translation is that).

The verse that I came across today is from Sirach. Sirach you wonder?? What book is that?? Well I'm a Catholic-Christian and the Bible Cannon that I use is different then what many non-Catholics in the "west" use. Eastern Christians, such as Eastern Orthodox, have a canon that is LARGER (i.e. has more books) then Catholic-Christians. Wikidedia does have table that shows the different cannons.

The bible verse that I'm going to add to the cover of my journal is Sirach 30:9 and it reads "Pamper your child and he will be a terror for you, indulge him and he will bring you grief."

There is truth in that! Nobody want their kids to be "spoiled brats"; after all they are never happy. They spend their whole life searching for THINGS to filled this void in their heart. What they don't realize is what they are missing is LOVE! So instead of seeking LOVE, instead of seeking GOD, they look for THINGS that will make them happy. They may get what they want, but they are never truly happy, they keep searching, for that next best thing.

I want my children to be GREATFUL for what they have!!! I want them to be filled of LOVE, I want them to be filled with God. That doesn't mean I can't treat them every now and then, of course I will. Treats are fun, but they should NOT be the NORM.

I think that Proverbs 22:6 and Sirach 30:9 are good verses together. The first, proverbs, remindes me that is it my job to raise my kids in the "right way" and Sirach 30:9 is an example of what the "right way" is: Don't raise spoil brats!!! LOL

  3. Yes, interesting post-I was raised Catholic but had never hear of the Sarach (sp?) stuff. Thanks for sharing. I think more people need to read those statements-like 80% of the US population! So true, so true.
